I have been there myself, and I can tell you it is the only city in the world which is situated on two continents. You can see a lot of byzantine and turkish monuments (palaces - e.g.The Topkapi Saray where the Sultan lived, you can watch several byzantine churches - some of them are mosques now, there are a lot of museums, there is a great bazar,...)
You can do a lot of shopping. Every part of the town is different (cultural, touristic, traditional, old, new,...) So, I would say everyone could find something interesting for him/her.
On the Bosporus, there are several small palaces and beautiful houses, nice villages and beautiful landscape.

It's fascinating for several reasons. As you might know it's a city with one half in Europe and one in Asia. Millions and millions of people living in what might be the only place in the world that's part metropolis and part antique. And it will be gone partly in about 50 years due to earthquakes.
